Want to start a Girls on the Run team at your school or a neighborhood site?

If you are interested in bringing GOTR to a new location in the Midlands, please fill out a Columbia Site Application.

The form will help you assess your site’s readiness to host a GOTR team.  GOTR sites must be able to do the following:

  • Provide a contact person at the site (the Site Liaison) to coordinate with GOTR of Columbia.  This can be a staff or faculty member, parent, community member, PTO president, etc.  He or she must have a good relationship with the site and be willing to facilitate communication between GOTR of Columbia and the site. This person is also responsible for ensuring that all necessary paperwork is filed with the site (facilities use forms, etc).
  • Provide a safe place for running.  This does not have to be a track.  A field is fine.  However, there would be a need to measure off part of the area for occasions when lessons require running a certain distance, e.g. 1 mile, 3k, etc.
  • Provide a rain site (classroom, gym, etc.).  It is very important the ensure that this rain location will not be in conflict with other after school activities that may occur at your site.
  • Choose two days a week to hold the program.  Coaches may choose to hold the program for 75 minutes or 90 minutes.
  • Distribute registration forms to all girls in age group (3rd –5th for Girls on the Run and 6th – 8th for Girls on Track).
  • Provide at least one coach.  GOTR of Columbia may be able to help provide other coaches and will be responsible for training all coaches.

Group Size

Girls on the Run teams are required to have a minimum of eight participants.  The maximum group size is 15 participants.  If a group has more than 15 girls interested in participating at one site, they may be broken up into two teams as long as there are enough trained coaches and adequate space.

Fees

The current fee is $125 per girl with an additional $8 online processing fee.  The total cost of $133 includes all lesson materials, a t-shirt and water bottle, snacks, entry into the end of season race, and coaching by trained volunteers. We offer full and partial scholarships for girls who are unable to pay that fee.
